The Wharf is proud to announce it line-up for the 5th annual “Fourth at The Wharf” celebration. Headlining as part of the Pepsi Star Concert Series will be July 4th favorites Montgomery Gentry with special guests James Otto and Easton Corbin. Showtime is 8:00 pm.

The Wharf is also pleased to announce our local Subway® restaurants in South Alabama and Northwest Florida as the title sponsor for the 2010 Subway® Fireworks Spectacular. The fireworks display will begin after Montgomery Gentry’s performance.

The Wharf Hosts Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Ride for Wishes 2009

The Wharf is please to host the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Ride for Wishes 2009, October 2 – 4, 2009. The Ride For Wishes 2009 is a cycling event for all ages and riding levels, and will feature beautifully scenic rides through the sandy white beaches of Orange Beach, AL. Saturday will feature a 100 mile ride, a Metric Century, a 50 mile Out and Back, and a 17 mile Family Fun Loop. Sunday will feature a Metric Century, a 50 mile Out and Back, and a 17 mile Family Fun Loop. All money raised will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama. Pat Green Concert Date Set For The Wharf

Acclaimed country artist Pat Green will be performing Saturday, October 31, 2009 at The Wharf Music Hall. Doors will open at 7:30.

For a man whose new album ‘What I'm For” begins with a powerful song called "Footsteps of Our Fathers," Pat Green has blazed his own trail in a way that few artists today can claim. MMA Cage Fighting Event “The Reckoning” at The Wharf

Ultimate Event Promotions, LLC, in association with The Wharf, announces a mixed martial arts cage fighting event to take place on September 19, 2009 at The Conference Center at The Wharf. First bout will start at 7:00pm.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete.

Entitled “The Reckoning,” the main event features Jimmy “Cornbread” Mills of Fairhope, AL vs TBD.

This is an intensive camp that will focus on the fundamentals of short game, full swing and on course strategy and will provide guidance in the college recruitment process. This weekend is developed for players who are serious about the game of golf and are looking to possess the skills necessary to play competitive high school, amateur and collegiate golf. Several collegiate coaches have been invited to observe the camp.

CHESNEY LAUNCHES NEW RADIO STATION FROM THE WHARF

Kenny Chesney is transforming his iPod into a Web-based radio station. The superstar is set to launch No Shoes Radio at noon (ET) on August 6. He'll be on hand in the parking lot of the Amphitheater at the Wharf in Orange Beach, Ala., where he's set to perform later that night, for the radio station's official live kick-off.

In addition to an interview and perhaps the performance of a few tunes, Kenny will be joined by tourmates Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum for the inaugural day of broadcast, which culminate in the simulcast of the Orange Beach concert, available via computer anywhere in the world.

"I always say I wish I could take the fans with us," says the entertainer. "I can't drag people around behind me, but we can still make them part of this concert experience. The idea that I can bring everybody together within all the music that inspires me ... well, that's what got me started doing this in the first place, and now we can find a way to bring everybody to the show! It's gonna be cool, and then it's gonna keep rocking."

Expect Kenny's eclectic musical taste to be another exciting aspect of No Shoes Radio.

Rum Runners USA announces it’s newest location at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama will open the first week in July.

STUDENT LIFE BRINGS THOUSANDS OF TEENS TO THE WHARF

The Wharf welcomes the Student Life 2009 Summer Mission Camp to Orange Beach. Student Life, Inc., a national organization of Christian youth, is holding its 2009 Summer Mission Camp for the first time ever at The Wharf Orange Beach, Alabama.

Students are registered for nine separate Summer Mission Camp sessions during the months of June and July. A total of approximately 2000 Christian youths, from ages 13 to 18, have registered for this exciting event at The Wharf. The largest meeting facility on the Alabama Gulf Coast -- the new Conference Center at The Wharf, will serve as "base camp" for Student Life groups, with spacious accommodation for meetings, Bible study sessions, and climate-controlled space for indoor activities and games. The Wharf community hopes the Student Life members will return home with great memories of fun experiences during their Summer Mission Camp at Orange Beach, Alabama.

The Conference Center's 27,000 square feet of interior space houses meeting room areas, a Green Room, and state-of-the-art audio and visual technology available for hosting a wide variety of exhibits and functions, including association and group meetings, trade shows, special events, weddings, and sporting events. May is a great time to be inshore fishing in Orange Beach. The warmer water conditions and lack of heavy rain have really helped the speckled trout fishing. We have been catching plenty of big trout the last couple of weeks along with some really nice flounder. The flounder are making their way back in the bays from the Gulf, and we’ve been catching most of the flounder on small mullet and bull minnows.

May is one of the best times to get the kids out fishing. Other than the trout and flounder, we are catching several different species that are fun and easy for kids to catch. The bluefish, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, and mangrove snapper are showing up around the pass and will be around most of the summer. For the fly fisherman out there, we have caught several large trout on fly this past week including a 28 inch fish that weighed 7 pounds! There are lots of great opportunities for fish on fly, from redfish, and trout to bonitos and jack crevelle. As we get near the end of May the shark fishing will getting hot. And we target black tips, spinners, bull sharks, and hammerheads just to name a few.

The Wharf announces the lineup for its 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Festival with performances from REO Speedwagon, STYX, 38 Special and Steely Dan all in one weekend. To kick off this year’s Summer Solstice Festival, the CAN’T STOP ROCKIN’ 2009 Tour, featuring REO Speedwagon, STYX and 38 Special, will perform at The Amphitheater at The Wharf on Thursday, June 18th as part of the Pepsi Star Series.

April is not only the beginning of spring, but the kick off of Cobia season for our area. Cobia, or Ling as some of the old school captains call them, migrate along our coast from the last week in March to about the middle of May. We site fish for them using live bait or jigs. The average size is between 35 and 65 pounds so these are a lot of fun to catch on light tackle. April is also one of the best months for speckled trout fishing. We're catching most of the trout on free lined live shrimp, soft plastics and mirrolures. There are several other species we catch this time of year, such as pompano, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and flounder. With the mild weather and great fishing opportunities April is a great time to get out and do some inshore fishing.

The Gulf Coast’s premier 4th of July celebration will continue this year with The Wharf’s 4th Annual “Fourth at The Wharf” event. What has been called the largest and most spectacular celebration in the Southeast, this annual event has become a tradition for local residents and vacationers. Each year, thousands fill The Amphitheater at The Wharf for an evening of rousing, patriotic entertainment. This year, The Wharf has partnered with Grammy nominated, country sensation Montgomery Gentry for a live concert at The Amphitheater at The Wharf on Saturday, July 4th as a part of The Wharf’s Pepsi Star Series. The concert will include a live performance by the country duo, as well as patriotic songs and dedications. The “Fourth at The Wharf” presents the grandest fireworks extravaganza on the coastal Panhandle, and this Fourth will be no exception. Speaking of Spring Break, don’t forget that Corey Smith and special guest Rhett Akins are playing at The Amphitheater at The Wharf, Saturday, March 14th. Both guys are special friends of The Wharf. Corey thrilled the crowds last spring break with a concert and is coming back for an encore show. Rhett opened for Hank Williams at The Amphitheater’s very first concert Memorial Day weekend 2006, and for Montgomery Gentry at their 4th of July show in 2007. Rhett also performed on the Boardwalk for The Wharf’s Summer Solstice event last summer. If their sell out performance at Chastain Park in Atlanta is any indication, this show should be incredible. Sugarland Brings Their Love On The Inside Tour to The Wharf

2008 Grammy winner for “Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group,” Sugarland announced they are bringing their Love On The Inside Tour to The Amphitheater at The Wharf on Friday, May 15th as a part of Pepsi Star Series. Showtime for the concert is 8 p.m.

At the 2008 Academy of Country Music Awards, the duo Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush were honored with the “Song and Single of the Year” for the acoustic sensation “Stay.” Nettles made history by being the only female artist to have solo-written the ACM “Song Of The Year.” "Stay" also won song of the year the Country Music Association Awards. Their album Love On The Inside, released July ’08, has sold over a million copies to date .

Also appearing on stage May 15th is Billy Currington who has been nominated for both ACM and CMA awards. His success in country music also includes #1 singles, “Hottest Video of the Year” at the 2006 CMT Music Awards, and recently chosen as an “On The Verge” artist by USA Today. Currington’s albums Doin’ Somethin’ Right and Little Bit Of Everything both debuted at #2 on the country charts. Currington recently acquired his third #1 hit with the first single of his newest album “Don’t.”

VH1 You Oughta Know artist Matt Nathanson will also perform at the upcoming concert. Get your purple, green and gold out because it’s Mardi Gras Time for Orange Beach!

And, I can’t think of a better way to start the season off right than at The Conference Center at The Wharf, which was opened last night with The Mystical Order of Mirams Goddess of The Seas 2009 Mardi Gras Ball. Over 300 people enjoyed the Rockin’ Moroccan Nights with their Queen Dana Day and Emblem Virginia Lynn at this new complex at The Wharf. Accompanied by a setting of extravagant Moroccan decorations, Vince Vance and the Andy Smith Band entertained the Gulf Coast guests for their 3rd annual ball. Doors opened at seven o’clock that evening and the Tableau was held at eight. What a spectacular first night at The Conference Center at The Wharf!

The Mardi Gras celebration does not stop there. Kicking off Saturday night at 8 p.m., The Mystics of Pleasure will have their ball at The Conference Center at The Wharf as well. Their “Nine is Fine” Masquerade Ball is the MOP’s ninth Mardi Gras celebration as the largest society on Pleasure Island, and the only society that parades and has its grand ball on the same night!

The Wharf is also celebrating Joe Cain Day this upcoming Sunday, February 22nd. During the onset of Civil War, Mardi Gras celebrations on the gulf coast came to an abrupt halt. In 1866, Joseph Cain paraded down the streets of Mobile to bring Mardi Gras celebration back to the Gulf Coast, and his successful ambition to revive the surrounding cities is observed each year on the Sunday before Mardi Gras Day, dubbed Joe Cain Day. February is a good month for Speckled Trout fishing in creeks and rivers along the Gulf Coast since the water temperture is cold enough to keep the fish pushed in the creeks for a few more weeks. Bull Reds are still migrating along the beaches of Alabama's Gulf Coast. Weather permitting charters from The Wharf Outfitter are running the beach in search of schools of bait fish, or anchovies, on which the Reds will be feeding.

Bull Reds are great catches through Febuary, and sometimes into March. As Spring arrives, changes in this environment allow for more species to be caught near the pass. These species include Pomano, Flounder, Bluefish, Spanish Mackrel, and Trout.

Winter in Orange Beach is a great time to fish for Redfish and Speckled Trout.

Bull Reds are adult Redfish that migrate along the Gulf Coast this time of year and are plentiful when the weather is right. Specifically, the best time to fish for Redfish is immediately following a cold front. After the front pushes through, a light north wind makes it easy to run the beach in search of schools of Baitfish, on which Redfish feed. Most Redfish are over 15 lbs and are easily caught on light spin tackle using jigs and live bait.

Trout fishing is another option if the Gulf is too choppy, or if conditions are not right for Redfish. Speckled Trout run up creeks, rivers, and bayous when the water temperature drops. Cold weather drives Baitfish from the bays to the creeks and rivers, and Trout follow.

For fly fishermen, this time of year also presents great opportunities to catch large Redfish and Trout on fly.

Exciting times are waiting for you at The Wharf for 2009! From free events to big name concerts to spring and summer breaks, we are preparing for an entire year of fun!

Beginning January 7th, The Wharf is starting something new for every Wednesday January through February: Wind Down Wednesdays at The Wharf. This Wednesday event will include exclusive A.M. and P.M. specials every Wednesday for a limited time from different restaurants. Come spend your Wednesdays at The Wharf and take advantage of these great specials! You can visit any of the following restaurants for great deals and specials:

Rafters – A sports bar with BBQ, seafood, wings burgers and even a kids menu, this local favorite has happy hour every Wednesday night until 9 p.m. They are also offering $6.99 lunch specials Monday through Friday!

Guy Harvey Island Grill and Boat Bar – This restaurant features very popular seafood entrees served in a comfortable setting that overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. On Wednesdays, it will offer Bud Light Drafts and Early Bird Specials from 4-6 p.m. They will also have BINGO on Wednesday nights! What fun!

Live Bait II – Offering casual waterfront dining with lunch & dinner specials, this restaurant is sure to please and is located at the end of Wharf Parkway. For their Wind Down Wednesday, there will be a chance to win a $50 gift card from 5 p.m. until close. Also, all service industry employees can received 25% off their bill(must have pay stub to be eligible).

Villaggio Bar and Grill –This unique dining option allows you to experience a Mediterranean and Italian fusion of flavor with a new approach and an old world charm. In the A.M. you can receive a complimentary cup of coffee and from 3-6 p.m. there will be early bird specials and wine by the glass for $5 from 3-6 p.m.!

Ginny Lane Bar and Grille – Ginny Lane will offer lunch specials for only $8 Monday through Friday, and early bird specials from 4-6 pm every Wednesday! Yes, I am already so excited that I'm practicing for the grand countdown to 2009 at The Wharf’s New Years Eve Block Party.

And why wouldn’t anyone be excited? If you haven’t ever been before, this third annual event will knock your socks off – and yes it might be a little chilly, even at the beach, for those of you that may be first-timers!

Best of all it’s FREE!

Not one, but TWO bands will hit the stage for New Years this year at 7 p.m. – John Stone and Crystal Clear! The streets will be rocking and rolling with sound from country, rock and blues to a Motown extravaganza. You can dance on the streets to your favorite tunes and sensational sounds as The Wharf brings in the New Year!

Screens on Main Street will have the countdown to 2009, followed by an explosion of pyrotechnics that rock the Island. The fireworks show – which promises to be the best ever -- will explode right over your head to celebrate the coming of a new year!

But the party of the year doesn’t stop on the streets. Retail shops and restaurants will join in the celebration! What A Weekend!

What a weekend!

The Pleasure Island Christmas Parade was a HUGE success. So many smiling faces from the community came to watch performers march down Wharf Parkway and Main Street, catch candy and Christmas memoirs, sing-a-long with bands and music, and even to wave at good ol’ St. Nick! The day was filled with delight and surprises, even from the sky—as soon as the parade started down Wharf Parkway, it began to snow!

With the beautiful weather, the crowds of people stayed around even after the parade had finished to count their candy, chat with friends old and new, and grab a bite to eat before they left.

After the parade, we had musical entertainment from the Starlight Theater group, Cary Laine performed at Palm Plaza, and Santa even stayed for free pictures.

Later that night, I enjoyed the whimsical sights and sounds of the Nautical Night of Lights Parade on the Intercoastal Waterway.

We had a perfect view of all the decorated boats that paraded by The Marina at The Wharf on their route, with the boats passing by a little after 6. It was truly a beautiful sight, and while here, people could watch from the privacy of their own condo or while enjoying a meal at one of our 15 restaurants! This was the perfect place to watch them.

Two parades in one day really gets everyone in the Christmas spirit. Speaking of Christmas spirit, it won’t be too long until you’ll need all of your Christmas presents. For those of you that are last minutes shoppers, come to any of our retailers for a nice surprise for your loved ones or even get a gift certificate from one of our fine restaurants! You can find something for everyone on your list with over 45 stores in one convenient location at the largest shopping center on The Island, and in turn, you can give back to The Island by keeping your tax dollar revenue from shopping local when you shop at The Wharf.

The Wharf’s Christmas festivities are not complete yet though. We still have Santa taking FREE pictures next Saturday, and have Christmas music this Thursday. And, I’ve noticed that it always seems to snow from 5 to 6 in the evenings here. Maybe you should come check it out!

New Year's Eve Block Party at The Wharf

The annual New Year’s Eve Block Party at The Wharf is set for Wednesday, December 31st and is FREE to the public! This exciting Island tradition is the only place in Alabama to hear live performances by up and coming country star John Stone and Motown sensation Crystal Clear, as well as see the Gulf Coast’s largest fireworks display at midnight!

Live music begins at 7 p.m., so plan to come early and stay all evening! The Wharf has the Island’s largest selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars all in one place that are great for dinner, snacks, and drinks.

A northern Alabama native, John Stone picked up the guitar when he was six and as time progressed, he has learned to play the bass, drums, harmonica and piano. He has in fact championed the hurdles before him to become a seasoned performer. He’s a singer/songwriter who delivers a live performance with magnetism, energy and honesty.

Setting a standard with already notable career achievements, recording artist John Stone is off to a good start with his released his debut album on Tootsie’s Records in October 2004 (MEET JOHN STONE), and he has proven himself as a world-class songwriter with the success of his first self-penned single “Shame On Me.” He visited more than 200 radio stations across the nation as well as toured with and opened for some of today’s hottest country acts.

John made an appearance on the Today Show, performed at six presidential campaigns for President George W. Bush, and he made a special appearance for Tim McGraw’s NFL halftime highlights segment taped for Monday Night Football (by NFL Films).

Crystal Clear will join the stage that night to perform exciting blends of Classic R&B, Jazz, and current dance favorites as a party band that delivers for any occasion. Tight rhythms and great vocals highlight the music that this Birmingham dance band performs.

This Motown sensation will be sure to rock the streets for New Years!

Four Days Until The Pleasure Island Christmas Parade

In four days, I will host the first Pleasure Island Christmas Parade for the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores area – and I’m super excited about this event!

In four days, we are hosting the first Pleasure Island Christmas Parade for the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores area (That’s this Saturday, December 13) – and I’m super excited about this event!

Come watch your friends from the City of Orange Beach, Sheriffs, Orange Beach Fire Department, Foley Drum Line, Pride of Pleasure Island Band, Orange Beach Elementary, Church groups, members of the Lions Club and Kiwanis, and even Mardi Gras groups as they parade down Main Street on Saturday. There will be floats, music, and even Santa!

Any last minute volunteers would be appreciated. If you are interested, please contact Lesley Dethloff at 251.224.1012.

After the parade, stick around for free pictures with Santa, sponsored by Pen Air Credit Union. Also, listen to the Starlight Theater Group at Palm Plaza. It will be music to your ears!

Later in the evening, you can also enjoy the Nautical Night of Lights Parade. You’ll have a great view from our Marina as these decorated boats pass by on the Intercoastal. So hang out and grab something to eat at one of our 15 restaurants, and enjoy this event!

While we are on the subject of the holidays, I would like to encourage you to shop the Island first for all of your gift giving needs, as well as your dining and entertainment options. When you think about it, anything you spend here at The Wharf or on the Island in turn gives your community tax dollars. These tax dollars provide necessary funding for police, fire divisions and public works for our area. Last Concert of the Season!

Well, it’s a bittersweet moment for me. Today marks the end of The Amphitheater at The Wharf’s year with the last concert of the season for 2008, which is sad for patrons and staff members alike. However, it gives me the opportunity to enjoy one last concert of the musical talent of 3 Doors Down, Switchfoot, and American Bang --- I guess you can say we are going out with a bang! We will be rocking on the Island all night!

And why wouldn’t we be excited? 3 Doors Down decade plus ascension holds claim to 13 million albums sold, 3 multiplatinum albums, six #1 hits, multiple Billboard and countless other awards. Switchfoot has had #1 songs on Billboard and Christian charts, and even a Grammy nomination for “Learning to Breathe”. In 2002, the popular movie A Walk To Remember featured with several tracks on the gold selling album. Their recent album "The Beautiful Letdown" sold over 2,000,000 copies and boasted the smash hits "Dare You To Move" and "Meant To Live.” American Bang, who will hit The Amphitheater stage first, released a new hit October 23 for music fans across the country to experience what this up and coming quartet’s sizeable grass-roots following has know since 2005. American Bang built up a grass-roots audience playing locally, earning a reputation for their high-energy, no-holds-barred live shows.

The end of the season allows time to reflect on the year. And to think back --- wow! I have met some of the biggest names in music, rookies as well as legends, including Alan Jackson, Sugarland, BB King, Willie Nelson, Kid Rock, The Allman Brothers, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Taylor Swift, Widespread Panic, Heart and Journey. To think all of these great names have stood on the stage is humbling and exhilarating at the same time. And what about next year! How many great concerts will The Amphitheater stage host in 2009? When is the first concert? Rumors seem to be circulating that some very big names are promising!

I can’t wait to see what the 2009 season holds in store for The Amphitheater.

But for now, I’m getting ready for the New Year’s Block Party with John Stone and Crystal Clear. Should be a rocking good time!

We Have Walls!

That’s right - you heard it here first! The first wall is officially up at The Conference Center at The Wharf.

Planned at approximately 27,000 square feet, The Conference Center will accommodate meeting room space through a partitioned wall system, a Green Room, state-of-the-art audio and visual technology, and a catering kitchen. When the wall system is not used, the conference center will serve as an 18,600-square-foot exhibition hall, which will accommodate more than 2,000 guests for reception or theater seating and more than 1,500 for banquet seating.

The Conference Center at The Wharf will be able to host a variety of groups and events, including association meetings, special events, sporting events and more. Early bookings for 2009 include Student Life, a youth ministry organization that will use the conference center from May through August for its summer camps.

THE WHARF CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS IN A BIG WAY

Its finally our favorite time of the year here at The Wharf and we here at The Wharf are planning to celebrate Christmas in a BIG way this year. The annual “hanging of the green” started last week. Garland now flows from every railing along Wharf Parkway and Main Street. Rumor has it that the tree will arrive this week. The tree is 40 feet tall – the tallest on the Island we hear. Excitement definitely fills the air at The Wharf right now and it could not come soon enough!

The merriment officially kicks off this Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, at 6:00pm, at the “Lighting of the Island” event. Friends and family of The Wharf and the Island are invited to come cheer along as the grand Christmas tree is lit. This year’s tree will be placed in the round about at the end of Main Street, in front of the Guy Harvey boat bar. The highlight of the evening will be the arrival of our favorite jolly old man - Santa - escorted by Orange Beach’s finest – the fire department. That’s right – Santa will arrive atop of big red fire truck! Children will not want to miss this! Santa will hang around after his arrival for a few hours to offer FREE pictures. No need to bring your camera; a photographer will be on-site and The Wharf will post the pictures on its website after the event. The wonderful night is presented by NBC15 and UTV44 and Pen Air Credit Union. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors.

If you cannot make it out Friday to visit Ole’ Saint Nick, don’t worry. He will be back at The Wharf every Saturday through the holiday season. Santa will perch himself atop his giant sleigh every Saturday from 1pm-5pm right next to the Christmas tree. Pictures are FREE each Saturday as well. I hear that Santa is fond of pets and has extended an open invitation to pet owners to bring their dogs as well! Peace on earth and good will to men and PETS this year! Since Santa will be busy sharing the camera with all his adoring fans, he might need a little help taking care of all his lists and The Wharf is THE place to take care of this. The Wharf is the largest shopping center on the Island, and has something for everyone on your list. Get dad a shirt at Bobby Chan, a fishing shirt at Sand Dollar, a fishing rod at The Wharf Outfitters Outdoor Store or a gift certificate to a sports bar so you can get him out of the house to go watch bowls games during the holidays! There are so many great gift shops to take care of all of your teacher gifts, friend gifts or, if you cannot resist the temptation to pick up some things here and there for yourself, “me” gifts. The Wharf has a ladies clothing option for all price ranges and ages. Support the local economy and your local retailers by doing your Christmas shopping at The Wharf this year. For those who love Christmas music, The Wharf will feature Christmas carolers from local community groups every Thursday beginning December 4th. Thanks to the relentless effort of The Wharf’s own event coordinator, Lesley Dethloff, the Island is going to host the 1st Annual “Pleasure Island Christmas Parade”. This inaugural event is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th, at The Wharf. The cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores have come together to make this event possible. The parade will be an exciting event that will be community focused and family oriented. Entrants to date include area high school bands and drum lines, several floats, fire trucks, local charity groups and local businesses. The parade will end with a special guest – you guessed it – Santa. This event is sure to become an island tradition that you just simply cannot miss!
